Virtual Rhosydd Quarry Walk for Treadmills

Rhosydd Quarry sits high in Cwm Croesor in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, surrounded by rugged Welsh mountains and the remains of a once-important slate industry. This 76-minute walking video follows old quarry tracks and rough mountain paths through the historic Rhosydd workings, with loose stone, rocky surfaces and uneven ground along the way.

The landscape is a mixture of natural mountain scenery and abandoned industrial remains. Huge slate tips cover parts of the slopes, while old quarry buildings, tracks and workings remain scattered across the valley. Beyond them, rocky ridgelines and the steep sides of Cwm Croesor create a distinctly upland setting with wide views across Eryri.

Although the video uses 0% treadmill incline, the real terrain is considerably more demanding. The route includes regular climbs and descents around the quarry workings, with some rough and potentially wet sections. At around 5 km/h, the video maintains a steady hiking rhythm, while occasional 2–4% incline changes would better represent the natural elevation variation for an indoor walking workout.

Rhosydd Quarry was developed during the 19th century and formed part of the extensive slate industry that shaped this part of Wales. Slate was moved from the quarry using historic transport routes including the Croesor Tramway and the Rhosydd Incline, while the nearby village of Croesor grew alongside the quarrying industry.

The old workings are particularly striking because they remain embedded within the mountain landscape. Slate walls, spoil heaps and abandoned structures appear against open slopes and distant peaks, giving the trail a strong contrast between industrial history and remote Welsh wilderness.

For a treadmill walking session, this is a longer and more rugged option, with 76 minutes of changing mountain scenery, quarry remains and exposed upland terrain rather than the smoother rhythm of a forest or countryside trail.
