Virtual The Tree Cube Walk for Treadmills
Compact dirt, exposed roots and moss-covered rocks line the Höga Kustenleden as it climbs through the forest toward Körningsberget in Nordingrå, on Sweden’s High Coast. This 26-minute walking video follows Stage 4 of the High Coast Trail, beginning on gentler woodland terrain before the path becomes more uneven and rocky.
Pine forest surrounds the trail, with rocks and roots breaking up the surface as the route gains height. The climb toward Körningsberget is noticeable but not continuous, with flatter stretches between the steeper sections. Higher ground brings views across the surrounding forest and lakes, giving the walk some variety beyond the dense woodland.
The destination is the Tree Cube, an architect-designed shelter built in 2018 as part of Sweden’s ARKNAT project. The small 2 × 2 metre cube is elevated among the trees, creating a floating appearance above the forest floor. Openings in the structure frame views towards the lake, surrounding forest and evening sky without overwhelming the landscape.
The actual trail has more elevation and rougher footing than the treadmill settings suggest. The video uses 5 km/h at 0% incline, producing a steady walking rhythm that works well for a straightforward indoor walking workout. Adding 1–2% incline would better reflect the climb toward the Tree Cube, while keeping the treadmill flat gives an easier version of the route.
The wider Höga Kustenleden crosses the High Coast World Heritage Site, where forested hills, exposed rock, lakes and coastal landscapes reflect the region’s unusual post-glacial land uplift. On this section, though, the focus stays firmly on the forest trail and the distinctive structure waiting among the trees.
