The Table Cape Tulip Farm sits high on the volcanic plateau above Bass Strait near Wynyard in north-west Tasmania. This 30-minute walking video follows the farm tracks through open fields and between the tulip crops, with the coastline and ocean visible from the top of the cape.

The walking is fairly easy, with grass and compact farm tracks underfoot and only gentle undulations along the way. There are no long climbs, so it feels much more like a relaxed walk through farmland than a traditional bush track. The scenery changes as the path moves between planted fields and more open sections of the farm.

The tulips are obviously the main attraction when they're in flower. Long rows of colourful blooms stretch across the fields, standing out against the surrounding green farmland. Beyond the flowers, the elevated position gives views across Bass Strait, towards Table Cape Lighthouse and along the north-west Tasmanian coastline. The cliffs below the cape drop around 180 metres towards the water, adding to the sense of being high above the coast.

The farm has been growing tulips since the 1980s, when the Van Diemen Quality Bulbs family business imported its first bulbs from Holland. The main flowering season lasts around a month each spring, generally around October. The farm describes the fields as among the largest tulip fields in the Southern Hemisphere where visitors can walk among the flowers.

For the treadmill version, the pace is set at around 5 km/h with a 1% incline. The slight incline adds a little effort while keeping the walk comfortable, although 0% would also suit the relatively flat terrain. The steady pace works well here, with the changing fields and coastal scenery providing most of the interest.

At 30 minutes, this is an easy virtual walk with a very different feel from a forest or mountain trail. The combination of colourful tulips, open farmland, volcanic landscape and Bass Strait views makes it particularly distinctive when the fields are in bloom.
