Virtual St Valentines Peak Walk for Treadmills

St Valentines Peak rises to around 1,107 metres in north-west Tasmania, standing above the surrounding forest and mountain country. This 112-minute walking video follows the track through dense Tasmanian forest before gradually climbing into more open terrain near the summit.

The lower sections pass through muddy and uneven ground, with exposed roots and rocks making the track feel like a proper Tasmanian bushwalk. As the elevation increases, the forest begins to thin out and is replaced by scrub, exposed rock and open mountain slopes. The terrain becomes steeper and rougher near the top, requiring more careful footing.

Once above the trees, the views open up across the surrounding ranges. The summit feels quite isolated, with the open slopes providing a much wider view than the enclosed forest below. The exposed nature of the upper mountain also means conditions can change quickly, particularly with wind and weather.

The full St Valentines Peak hike is around 9 kilometres return with approximately 626 metres of elevation gain. It is generally regarded as a demanding walk, particularly as the track becomes rougher higher up. At just over 1,100 metres, the summit is also one of Tasmania's higher peaks and is classed among the state's Abels.

For the treadmill version, the pace is around 4 km/h with an 8% incline. That gives the video a strong, sustained uphill feel and represents the overall effort of the climb, although the real track has plenty of variation in gradient and much rougher surfaces. Dropping the incline to 5–6% would make for a more manageable indoor session while keeping the same mountain-hiking character.

At 112 minutes, this is a much longer workout than most of the walks in the collection. The steady pace and strong incline make it a good endurance-focused session, while the scenery gradually changes from enclosed Tasmanian forest to open mountain slopes around the summit.
