Virtual Russell Falls Walk for Treadmills

Russell Falls Walk is an easy forest track through the cool temperate rainforest of Mount Field National Park in Tasmania. This 23-minute walking video follows the path through dense ferns and mossy forest towards Russell Falls, one of Tasmania's best-known waterfalls.

The track is mostly smooth and well formed, with compacted gravel and paved sections underfoot. There are a few steps and gentle rises, but nothing particularly demanding. The 1% treadmill incline used in the video fits the general feel of the trail, while the 4 km/h pace keeps the walk relaxed.

Russell Falls Creek runs alongside the track, with the sound of flowing water becoming more noticeable as you get closer to the falls. The main waterfall drops in several tiers over a rocky face, surrounded by thick rainforest and plenty of green vegetation.

Giant tree ferns are one of the standout features of the walk. They grow beneath the taller trees and crowd the edges of the track, while moss-covered trunks, damp ground and smaller ferns add to the lush rainforest feel. Further into Mount Field National Park, the vegetation changes as the forest gives way to much taller eucalypts, including some exceptionally large trees.

For the treadmill version, around 4 km/h with a 1% incline gives a gentle indoor walking workout that matches the easy nature of the track. At just 23 minutes, it's a short session, with the creek, rainforest and Russell Falls providing most of the scenery as the walk progresses.
