Virtual Romaine Reserve Walk for Treadmills

Romaine Reserve follows Romaine Creek through the northern Tasmanian city of Burnie, combining forest, wetlands, boardwalks and open walking tracks. This 46-minute walking video moves through the reserve on mostly wide gravel paths and level boardwalks, crossing the creek several times along the way.

The reserve is particularly green and water-filled, with Romaine Creek running past a small dam and pond. Wetland areas attract ducks, swamp hens and other waterbirds, while the track eventually heads into thicker forest. Mountain ashes, white gums, blackwoods and tall man ferns give the later sections a much more enclosed feel.

Most of the route is flat and easy to walk, with only small changes in elevation. There is a gently rising section with steps towards Mount Street, but it is a relatively minor part of the walk. The 1% treadmill incline gives the video a little extra effort while still keeping the overall session easy. A 0% incline would also be a good match for most of the route.

The pace is around 4 km/h, giving this walk a slower and more relaxed rhythm than the 5 km/h sessions in the collection. It works well as a longer indoor walk, with the scenery gradually changing from creek and wetland to forest and boardwalk.

Romaine Reserve covers around 12.7 hectares along Romaine Creek and is part of Burnie's wider network of walking and recreation areas. There are about 5.2 kilometres of tracks throughout the reserve, including paths around the dam and through the wooded areas.

The creek is also important for local wildlife, including the native freshwater crayfish Engaeus yabbimunna. The bridges, creek crossings and boardwalks provide some variation underfoot without turning the walk into a particularly challenging trail.

At 46 minutes, this is a relaxed North West Tasmanian walk with plenty of greenery and water along the way. The slower 4 km/h pace, gentle incline and mix of creek, wetland and forest scenery make it an easy session to settle into.
