Virtual Guide Falls Walk for Treadmills
The Guide Falls Walk follows the Guide River through forested hills in north-west Tasmania, inland from Burnie. This 12-minute walking video stays close to the river as it heads towards Guide Falls, with flowing water, rocky cascades and dense native vegetation surrounding the track.
The surface changes between compacted gravel, natural dirt and rocky sections, with some uneven ground along the way. There are a few short rises and descents as the track follows the river, but no sustained climbing. The 2% treadmill incline gives the walk a little extra effort while the 4 km/h pace keeps things steady and relaxed.
The Guide River is the main feature throughout the walk. Clear water runs between exposed rocks, with smaller cascades appearing before the main falls. Ferns, moss-covered rocks and thick riverside vegetation add plenty of green around the wetter sections, while tall eucalypts rise above the track.
Guide Falls itself is made up of a series of rocky drops where the river tumbles through the forest. The falls become more prominent as the track gets closer, with the surrounding trees and vegetation keeping the setting fairly enclosed.
For the treadmill version, the pace is around 4 km/h with a 2% incline. That gives the short session a little more variation than a completely flat walk without making it particularly demanding. The real track has more changes in surface and gradient than a treadmill can reproduce, but the steady pace and gentle incline capture the general feel of the route.
At just 12 minutes, this is a short virtual walk, with the Guide River and falls providing the main focus. The combination of flowing water, rocky cascades, ferns and native forest gives the walk plenty of character despite its short length.
