Virtual Fern Glade Upper Walk for Treadmills

Fern Glade Upper Walk explores the higher part of the Fern Glade reserve just outside Burnie on Tasmania's north-west coast. This 14-minute walking video stays mostly within dense temperate rainforest, with tall eucalypts, tree ferns and thick undergrowth surrounding the track.

The track is mainly compacted natural surface and gravel, with some roots, rocks and uneven patches along the way. There are only small changes in elevation, so the walk remains fairly easy without any sustained climbing. The 0% treadmill incline used in the video fits the general character of the route.

The upper section feels a little different from the lower Fern Glade track that follows the Emu River. Here, the trail spends more time among the surrounding forest rather than beside the water. Moss-covered trunks, ferns and dense vegetation close in around the path, particularly in the wetter sections where the forest floor can become very green.

Tree ferns are one of the main features, filling the understory beneath the taller eucalypts. Smaller ferns and other native plants cover much of the ground, giving the forest a thick, layered appearance. The cool and damp conditions around the Emu River catchment help support the lush vegetation found throughout the reserve.

For the treadmill version, the pace is around 5 km/h with a 0% incline. That keeps the walk comfortable and steady, matching the relatively gentle terrain. It's a simple option for a short indoor walking workout when you want some rainforest scenery without much climbing.

At 14 minutes, this is a brief walk, but the dense forest, tree ferns and moss-covered vegetation give it a distinctly Tasmanian feel. Unlike the lower section, the focus here stays mainly on the rainforest itself rather than the river.
