Virtual Whites Hill Bush Walk for Treadmills

Whites Hill Reserve sits in Brisbane's south-east, with bush tracks winding through dry eucalypt woodland despite the surrounding suburbs being close by. This 55-minute walking video follows the natural tracks through the reserve, with a mixture of gentle climbs, descents and easier sections.

The track is mainly compacted dirt, gravel and natural ground, with roots, rocks and some uneven patches along the way. There are several short uphill sections, but none last for very long before the track levels out again. The 2% treadmill incline gives the walk a little of that rolling feel, while the 4 km/h pace keeps the effort controlled.

Tall eucalypts and native grasses dominate the reserve, with thicker vegetation appearing in some sections. The dry woodland has a very different character from Brisbane's wetter rainforest areas, with more exposed ground, rocks and open spaces between the trees.

Some of the higher parts of the reserve open up enough to give glimpses across the surrounding suburbs. In other sections, the bush closes in around the track and it's easy to forget that you're still within the Brisbane urban area. The reserve is also home to a range of native birds, reptiles and other wildlife.

For the treadmill version, the pace is around 4 km/h with a 2% incline. This works well for a steady indoor walking workout, adding a little extra effort without turning the session into a steep hill climb. The 55-minute length also gives plenty of time to settle into a consistent rhythm.

The combination of dry eucalypt woodland, natural track, short climbs and occasional views over Brisbane gives Whites Hill a nice balance between a proper bushwalk and an urban reserve. It's a longer, moderately easy walk without any single section dominating the workout.
