Virtual Table Top Mountain Walk for Treadmills
Table Top Mountain rises on the eastern edge of Toowoomba, with its distinctive flat summit standing above the surrounding bushland. This 22-minute walking video follows the rugged track towards the top, starting through open eucalypt forest before the ground becomes steeper and rockier.
The trail gets noticeably rougher as it climbs. Loose gravel, exposed rocks and large stone steps replace the easier sections lower down, with a short scrambling section near the summit. The top of Table Top Mountain is surprisingly open, with wide views across Toowoomba, the Lockyer Valley and the surrounding Great Dividing Range.
The walk is only around 1.96 kilometres return, but the short distance doesn't tell the whole story. Toowoomba Regional Council rates the route as Grade 5, and the track is unmaintained in places. The climb over Camel's Hump starts with large stone steps before becoming more uneven and challenging higher up.
The vegetation changes along with the terrain. The lower sections pass through open eucalypt woodland, while the summit becomes increasingly rocky and exposed, with very little vegetation on the top. The flat summit also creates a striking contrast with the steep slopes falling away around it.
For the treadmill version, the pace is around 4 km/h with an 8% incline. That gives the session a strong, sustained uphill feel and represents the overall effort of the climb, although the real trail is much more varied, with steep steps, rocks and rough sections. Dropping the incline to 5–6% would make for a more manageable indoor workout while keeping the same general character.
At 22 minutes, this is a short but fairly demanding virtual walk. The combination of a strong incline, rugged terrain and the unusual flat-topped summit makes Table Top Mountain feel quite different from a typical bushwalk around Toowoomba.
