Virtual Surfers Paradise Beach Walk for Treadmills
Surfers Paradise Beach sits right alongside the Gold Coast skyline, with the Pacific Ocean on one side and high-rise buildings stretching along the other. This 41-minute walking video follows the beachfront, moving between the sandy shoreline and the paved paths around the foreshore.
The beach is mostly firm underfoot, although the sand becomes softer in places. The nearby promenade provides a much smoother surface, so the walking conditions change depending on where the route heads. There is almost no elevation change along the coast, making the 0% treadmill incline a natural fit. At around 5 km/h, the pace stays comfortable and steady.
The ocean is never far away, with waves breaking along the long sandy beach and the Gold Coast skyline providing a very different backdrop from a typical bushwalk. Along the Esplanade, landscaped areas, parks and pedestrian paths break up the buildings and give the waterfront a little more open space.
One of the interesting things about walking here is the contrast between the beach and the city. The coastline feels open and natural, while the towers of Surfers Paradise are constantly visible behind it. On quieter sections, there is more space around the shoreline, but the urban setting is never far away.
The beach itself continues for many kilometres beyond the central Surfers Paradise area, forming part of the much longer Gold Coast coastline.
For the treadmill version, 5 km/h at 0% incline keeps the session close to the flat conditions of the real walk. The 41-minute length makes it a straightforward indoor walking workout, with the beach, Pacific Ocean and changing Gold Coast skyline providing the scenery.
