Virtual Litchfield Track Bush Walk for Treadmills
The Litchfield Track winds through the eucalypt bushland of Mount Coot-tha, just west of Brisbane. This 36-minute walking video follows the broad natural track through shaded Australian woodland, with compact dirt and fine gravel underfoot and only the occasional loose stone or uneven patch.
The track is easy to follow and mostly flat, with some gentle rises along the way. Mature eucalypts line both sides of the path, with native grasses, shrubs and other undergrowth filling the spaces between the trees. The trail gradually gains some elevation towards the Mount Coot-tha summit area, but there are no long or particularly steep climbs in this section.
The Litchfield Track is around 2.5 kilometres one way, connecting the Gold Mine Picnic Area with the upper Mount Coot-tha area. There are plenty of other walking tracks branching through the surrounding bushland, and in a few places the trees open up to views across Brisbane and the nearby hills. Most of this walk, though, stays beneath the eucalypt canopy.
There is also a little local history around the Gold Mine Picnic Area. Gold mining once took place in the Mount Coot-tha hills, and some of the remnants and interpretation in the area provide a reminder of that earlier part of the mountain's history.
The video is recorded at around 5 km/h with a 0% treadmill incline, which suits the mostly level nature of the track. Setting the treadmill to 1% would add a little extra effort and better reflect the gentle rises along the route, while 0% keeps it as an easy, steady indoor walk.
The Mount Coot-tha bushland is home to plenty of native plants and birds, and the vegetation changes subtly as the track moves through the reserve. At 36 minutes, this is a straightforward virtual walk through Brisbane bushland, with the firm natural track, eucalypt forest and occasional glimpses beyond the trees providing the scenery.
