Virtual Curtis Falls Walk for Treadmills
The Curtis Falls Track descends through wet eucalypt forest on Tamborine Mountain, gradually becoming more like subtropical rainforest as it follows Cedar Creek towards the falls. This 15-minute walking video stays on the natural track, with compact dirt, exposed roots, rocks and shaded sections beneath the trees.
The upper part of the track is surrounded by tall flooded gums, with crow's nest and staghorn ferns growing among the trees. As the trail gets closer to Cedar Creek, the vegetation becomes thicker and greener. Moss-covered rocks, dense undergrowth and basalt formations make the lower section feel much darker and more enclosed than the forest above.
Curtis Falls Track is a 1.1-kilometre return walk in the Joalah section of Tamborine National Park. The trail descends towards the falls before climbing back out through the same forest. There are steps, roots and a few steeper sections along the way, but it is a relatively short walk. Cedar Creek becomes more noticeable as you get closer to the viewing area.
The falls drop over a basalt rock face into the pool below, with the viewing platform providing the main lookout. The creek and surrounding rock formations are also home to glow-worms, and platypus can be found in the broader area. The walking track itself stays above the creek and does not enter the falls or pool.
For the treadmill version, the video is set at around 5 km/h with a 0% incline. This keeps things simple and steady indoors, although the real walk has a downhill section followed by the climb back out, as well as steps and uneven ground. A 1% incline would add a little extra effort while still keeping the session comfortable.
At 15 minutes, this is a short virtual walk, but the scenery changes quite noticeably along the way. The transition from tall eucalypts into dense rainforest, followed by Cedar Creek and Curtis Falls, gives the walk plenty of variety despite its short length.
